Oklahoma GinOklahoma Gin fares quite well in popularity among all the available variants. In this game, the tweak is mainly on the number of times that the players can knock. This knocking limit is based on the value of the upcard, or the first card on the discard pile. If the upcard is a face card, then the players can knock up to a limit of ten times. If, however, the upcard is an ace, knocking will not be allowed, which means players will just have to go gin. Also, if the upcard belongs to the Spade suit, the hand will be doubled, and so will the knocking limit. This minor change makes the game unpredictable and even more exciting. Aside from that, winning in the Oklahoma version of the game requires 150 points rather than the normal 100. In some games, there are also extra boxes given to players who perform undercuts. Those who go gin also get two additional boxes. Other than these minor changes, however, the rules in The Oklahoma version remain the same as those used in the normal Rummy variation. The values of the cards remain the same, as well as the objective. Hollywood GinHollywood Gin, on the other hand, is very similar to the original version of the game, with some differences only in the scoring, but not in the rules. In this game, the scoring for three different games will be done at once. The three games will be carried out using the same hands the players get. The Hollywood Gin game is made for two players and uses a standard deck of 52 cards. The values of the cards are retained. The ace cards are low cards, with only one point each. The number cards are taken at their face values, the face cards at ten points each. The objective of the game is the same, which is to meld cards into different sets and runs. The play of the game is also the same in that each player will be given ten cards each, and the next card after dealing will be the upcard. Knocking is also part of the challenge of this game. The difference, however, is that the game will involve three different matches, which will be played altogether. The players all get scored for the three games, and their different scores are compared to determine the winner. Single and Multi-Match Games
There are also what are called single-match games and multi-match games in
Gin Rummy. In a single-match game, the game continues to play as many
rounds as it takes until one of the players reach 100 points of higher.
The player who reaches that point limit wins the game. In contrast, a
multi-match game refers to one where the scores are set back to zero at
the beginning of each match. The game scores, however, are accumulated and
determined at the end. In the multi-match games, the winning score should
be 500 and higher. Every match, however, will end when a player gets 100
points. |
